White Flag

For 40 days leading up to Easter, Renew Church is going to participate in a "season of surrender." Jesus once said "if you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it." Over 8 weeks, we'll uncover exactly what Jesus meant by examining his teaching and the example he lived out that took him to the cross. Alongside our series, we'll also participate in some new twists on popular Lent traditions and spiritual disciplines including Lenten sacrifice, online daily devotions, virtual prayer meetings and more! Can God Really Make Bad People Good?

Our study today focuses in on Romans 4:1-12 and asking the question, "Can God really make bad people good?" Romans 4:1-12 focuses on the theme of faith and righteousness, using the example of Abraham. The passage highlights that Abraham was justified by faith, not by works, and emphasizes that faith itself is credited as righteousness. It draws attention to the idea that righteousness is a gift received through faith, applicable not only to those who follow the law but to all who share Abraham's faith. The passage underscores the universality of God's grace and the foundational role of faith in the journey toward righteousness. God's transformative power is manifested through Jesus' propitiation for us. Romans 4:1-12 and other biblical passages affirm that righteousness is credited through faith, and through Christ's sacrificial act, God reconciles and transforms individuals, making them righteous despite their shortcomings. The propitiation provided by Jesus demonstrates God's capacity to redeem and make people morally upright through the acceptance of His grace.
