Compass Mentorship Initiative

Purpose of Compass Mentorship:

Renew Church’s mentorship initiative exists to help younger men and women to become more mature followers of Jesus through the influence of more mature believers in the church who will impart spiritual wisdom, encouragement, and instruction in the ways of God. This initiative will focus on equipping younger men and women with the knowledge and example of what it means to follow Christ in their generation.

Mentorship Initiative Objectives:

Through Renew’s Mentorship initiative, we want to achieve the following objectives:

  • We want to help younger believers train themselves for godliness
  • We want to call younger believers to spiritual discipline which will build the “enduring architecture of one’s soul on the foundation of Christ”
  • We want to increase engagement with the younger people in our church
  • We want to diminish isolation of young people and bring them together collectively for growth in their faith
  • We want to help younger believers build a foundation that will take them the distance in their walk with Jesus in this life
  • We want to help younger believers identify the things in their lives that are holding them back spiritually from making progress with God and to mentor them through it
  • We want to develop leaders for our church and for future churches as these young people move around for the rest of their lives; we want to make future investments for the health of the Canadian church
  • We want to create a structured architecture for more seasoned saints at Renew to disciple younger believers
  • We want to create a culture and expectation of discipleship

In order to accomplish this purpose, we will use two kinds of meetings to support the mentee’s spiritual walk with God over the course of Compass. We will have a collective, same-gendered bi-weekly meeting where we will learn and engage spiritual topics we want to grow in. Each mentee will also have a mentor that they will meet with on the off-week for a more personalized engagement and discussion surrounding the topics we’ve discussed as a group. Mentees will be paired up mentors.

dates & timings:

  • Compass Mentoring will begin with a large group meeting on Sunday, January 15 at 6:15 at St. Jude’s Academy for an orientation and introduction.
  • The four and a half month-mentoring initiative will run through the end of May 2023.
  • The collective meetings following the initial meeting will be held at the church offices following our Sunday afternoon service and will begin at 6:15p.m., running for one hour.
  • The meetings with the mentors will be scheduled by mentees and mentors for the off-weeks. This meeting should last at least one hour. Mentees will have eight total meetings over the next 4.5 months with their mentors.
